This traditional Ayurvedic treatment aims to balance the mind/body/consciousness, removes unresolved stress and emotions, promotes hair growth and luster, and provides a feeling of ecstatic bliss! The medicated oil is specific to one's constitution.
Enjoy this most amazing massage which will send you home in a blissful state. An herbal, medicated warm oil is poured on your forehead and scalp in a continuous and rhythmic manner. It enhances circulation in the brain, improves memory, nourishes the hair, provides sound sleep, and calms the body and mind. Shirodhara is an ancient, unique therapy shared with us from the Ayurvedic tradition.
The mind, body and spirit are intimately connected, and Shirodhara, by calming the mind, relaxes the entire physiology. Shirodhara is especially effective for those experiencing anxiety, insomnia, depression, and stress in general. Stress, according to Ayurveda, is a state of imbalance of 1. Life force, 2. Intelligence, 3.Cerebral spinal fluid. Sahasrara (the crown chakra) is the seat of the pituitary and pineal gland. As we know, the pituitary gland is one of the main glands of the endocrine system. Shirodhara stimulates the pituitary gland, which helps bring hormonal balance. Thus, Shirodhara, because of its calming and nurturing effect, is beneficial for most anyone.
Shirodhara can also strengthen the vital organs, the heart and the brain. The brain is the seat of consciousness and pranavayu. Shirodhara acts on tarpaka kapha and prana vayu by helping stimulate the ojas (the vitality of the cell, intercellular fluid) that goes to the heart and helps maintain life function. Thus, Shirodhara, indirectly helps strengthen ojas and its immunological and rejuvenative actions. In relation to the doshas, Shirodhara is specifically indicated for Vata and Pitta imbalances. Vata individuals plagued with fear, nervousness, anxiety, and insecurity, typically experience a calming and centering effect from Shirodhara.
